War and National Security

Jewish Choices, Jewish Voices, Vol. 5: War and National Security
There is intense debate today over what national security measures are acceptable on American soil (e.g. surveillance, profiling), while the American military is engaged in operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. What steps are necessary and justifiable to protect our nation from domestic and foreign threats? To some, war is the answer, but to others, war is only acceptable as an act of self-defense, or is not acceptable at all. In a time of war, questions of proper conduct come into play, as the controversy over the use of torture has demonstrated. Our contributors share personal experiences and some controversial ideas on the many highly-charged issues in this volume.
